Monday 23rd January – 3rd February 2012 First of all, we are so pleased to be able to share what we’ve been up to with you again. We have had a really busy couple of weeks and have been working hard with our teachers Mrs Gray, Miss Long and Miss Donnelly. In Literacy, we started to write our own poems, using repeating lines. We learnt and performed “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” and then we made up our own verses to add to the rhyme and perform. We moved on to writing poems about Fire, linked to our Fire of London topic. We made a list of adjectives to describe fire and then used them to write our own fire poems. Last week, we started to learn about writing instructions. Linking again to our Fire of London topic, we made bread and wrote instructions about how to make it. We also imagined that we had to leave some instructions for people to look after our dog. We made sure that we wrote each instruction step by step and that we used bossy language. In Numeracy, we learnt different ways of subtracting. We talked about the different vocabulary linked to subtracting and used it to answer subtraction problems. We used words like finding the difference, subtract and counting back. Our topic work over the last two weeks has linked strongly to our Literacy work. We have continued to explore how materials change by melting chocolate and making bread. We continued to use words like, predict and conclude and wrote a set of instructions for bread making. In History, we followed two sets of instructions. One was for helping Samuel Pepys to find his buried cheese, and the other was to paint a picture, step by step of the Fire of London. On Friday, we also had an exciting visitor come to the school. Each class took part in a Dance workshop. We really enjoyed the session and learnt a dance routine to a song by One Direction. We think our teachers enjoyed it just as much as we did. Finally, the following children received Special Mentions. Jorja received one from Miss Long for knowing her number bonds to 10. Miss Sorrell gave a special mention to Ella Q for persevering with her fire poem even after she had made a mistake. Ella H received a Special Mention for her sensible behaviour and for reminding others how to behave. |
