Monday 16th January – Friday 20th January 2012

We have had another busy week in the Meerkat’s Burrow. We have been learning lots of interesting things and adding new skills and vocabulary every day. On Monday, we conducted a Science experiment with Miss Long. We had to use what we’d learnt about melting ice in the previous week to predict how we could rescue little plastic husky dogs from blocks of ice. After we had made our predictions, we recorded our conclusions, making a note of whether our predictions were accurate or whether we had to try different methods of freeing the husky dogs.  We really enjoyed being scientists and are looking forward to more lessons where we can make predictions and record our conclusions.

In Literacy, we carried on learning about recounts. We wrote a factual recount about growing cress seeds. We made sure that we wrote what had happened in the correct sequence and that we used time connectives, to sequence each event. Time connectives are words like then, next, after that, finally. If you ask us, we should be able to tell you them. We also used time connectives to help us sequence events about the Great Fire of London in our History lesson. We played this game at the end of our Literacy lesson on Friday. http://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/PicnicOnPluto.html

In Numeracy, we named and described 2D and 3D shapes. We looked at patterns around us and learnt about repeating patterns. We looked at some repeating patterns and predicted what would come next. We also made some repeating patterns of our own. We finished the week by finding ten more or ten less than any two digit number, We used the 100 square to help us and talked about looking at the columns in a 100 square to help us find 10 more or 10 less.

We finished our week with a Special Mention assembly. This week Freya, Liam G and Marshall all received special mentions for getting 10 out of 10 on some tricky spellings. Alfie received a special mention for performing so well in our drama and music lessons this week.
