Monday 9th January 2012 –Friday 13th January 2012

We have continued into the new year working hard in all areas of the curriculum. In Literacy, we carried on learning about recounts, using sequencing words to outline what Farmer Duck has been doing. We also began to learn about verbs and listed all the jobs that Farmer Duck is doing in the story. Some of us worked on changing the verbs from present tense to past tense. We also developed our listening skills by following instructions for growing cress seeds. Later, this week we will be writing about growing cress seeds as a recount.

In Numeracy, we have been working really hard at partitioning numbers into tens and units. We have been learning how many tens and units there are in two digit numbers. Although we really began to hang of this, we found the numbers 19 and 91 very confusing.

In PE, we have been learning about different ways of travelling on different body parts. We’ve tried to make our movements really imaginative and this week we are concentrating on moving with tension and control.

Our topic this term is all about the Great Fire of London, and on Wednesday we had our first History lesson about it. We learnt when it took place, where it started and the names of some important people who were around at the time. We also drew picture of King Charles II and Samuel Pepys, describing the differences in their clothing compared to present day.

In Science, we are learning about how materials change, and have begun working with Miss Long and Miss Donnelly learning about ice and how it changes according to different temperatures.   Last Monday was really exciting because we had a letter from Dancing on Ice, asking us to help them find ways of looking after the ice and stopping it from melting. After carrying out our experiments, we wrote back to them with our results, outlining what we had done as a recount.

Our week ended with Special Mentions as usual.  Millie received a Special Mention for being well focused and working really hard on spellings and addition. Jasmine received a Special Mention for making super progress in reading and writing.
