Wednesday 4th January 2012 – Friday 6th January 2012 Although it already seems like ages ago, we would like to start by saying Happy New Year to you all from the Meerkats. We have arrived back after our Christmas holidays, full of enthusiasm and ready to learn. We started back at school by learning about writing recounts in our Literacy lesson. We read the story of “Farmer Duck” and sequenced events from the story. We listed the jobs that the duck had to do for the farmer, and thought about different questions that the farmer might have asked the duck and the different responses that the duck might have given. We used this to learn how to use question marks. We also learnt how to spell words with “ck” sounds in them. For further support in pronouncing letter sounds and blending and segmenting words for spellings, parents might like to look at the following websites. http://www.mrthornedoesphonics.com/ In Numeracy, we started working on ordering, reading and writing numbers. We began learning about partitioning numbers into tens and units. Some of the following websites can be used at home to help us practice partitioning numbers into tens and units. Shark numbers, Arrow cards, Dinosaur Place Value to be found at http://www.ictgames.com/placeValue.htm Our topic this term is Fire, Fire! We are learning about “The Great Fire of London” and on Wednesday we began our topic by exploring texture and colour by collaging and painting fires. We finished the week with our first set of Special Mentions for 2012. Darcy received a special mention for careful movement and travelling in PE. Jorja received a special mention for neat, well presented work. Lily received a special mention for fantastic improvement in reading. |
