Since our last blog lots of things have been happening in the Nursery and although I won't be giving you a day to day breakdown of all the things that we have been doing I hope to let you know about some of the more interesting ones. In our Letters and Sounds work we have been thinking about the letters 'a' 't' and 'p'. As well as our sound table we have also been printing with apples to make some 'amazing apple' pictures, spreading our own butter and toppings to make 'tasty toast' and mixing colours to paint some 'porky pink pigs'. Some of the older Nursery children now have a sound book and have been trying hard to remember the actions which help them to remember their sounds. In topic we have been looking at a different bear book each week.
Following on from Michael Rosen's 'Bear Hunt' we looked at 'Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?' which was great fun. The children all used the role play masks and were soon telling the story all by themselves. The following week was an old traditional favourite 'Goldilocks and the Three bears'. Again we used masks and puppets to help us tell the story. We also had Goldilocks and bear puzzles, had dry oats in the sand tray and we even had a porridge tasting session. Mummy Bear, Daddy Bear and Baby bear were in the Nursery all week with their own beds, bowls and spoons so we got quite good at using all the right words to compare sizes. We also learnt the song 'When Goldilocks went to the house of the Bears' although our actions and growls were better than our singing. Last week we read the story 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. We had a large cardboard box, a collander (a space helmet), some space boots, an aeroplane, an owl and some play food to take with us on our journey to the moon. We also made rockets with a selection of junk modelling boxes and masking tape and drew space pictures with white chalk on black paper. This week we are thinking about Polar Bears and using the book 'Snow Bear. The snow has come at just the right time for us and instead of starting with our topic work yesterday we took the chance to dress up in our all weather suits and wellies and play outside in the snow. It was a little chilly to go across to the hall in our PE kits today so we just took off shoes, socks and jumpers and played with the big parachute in the hall. We will be playing more with snow and ice on Wednesday and Thursday. Next week is half term and our new topic will be 'Television Characters' so we will be looking at Postman Pat, Bob the Builder and MIke the Knight as well as some other favourites. |
