Spring seems to have arrived at long last and we are taking full advantage of our outdoor area and the lovely sunshine. Our sound for this week was 'p' and during the week we have been reinforcing 's' 'a' and 't' as well as working on the new sound. Mrs Harvey and I have both been very impressed with the children and as yet we haven't managed to catch them out. We are also beginning to put together some of our sounds to make simple words like 'p-a-t' 's-a-t' and 't-a-p' and it is encouraging to hear some of the older children beginning to sound out these simple words. We learned a new action to help us and mixed together red and white paint to paint 'pink pigs'. Our sound table this week includes a panda, a pen and pencil and a pig amongst other things. Our number for this week was the number 3 and we have been writing and painting numbers throughout the week to help us with the correct formation. In our number books we printed '3 pigs' and during the week we have also been using the Three Pigs computer program to draw pictures. By special request the cooking group made butter biscuits on Tuesday and I am sure that if you got to taste them you will understand why they are my favourite. Mrs Harvey would be happy to share her recipes with any parents who would like to try them out at home. In PE this week we worked with the musical instruments. Everyone had to listen carefully and move around the hall in different ways depending on the instrument. We tried giant steps, fairy steps, crawling, rolling, shuffling on bottoms and jogging. We also practised balancing. I would like to congratulate the children on their changing - many now change on their own or are happy to 'have a go' at putting on their clothes and shoes. Well done. Friday was our usual wheeled toys and music. In music this week the children learnt another new song. This one was about a multi storey car park and it involved change in pitch and also introduced 1st, 2nd and 3rd with actions to make it more fun. The children also got the change to sing some of the songs that they have been working on over the past few weeks including 'One' and 'Two's Blues'. As usual we finished our week with a visit from Mrs Steele for 'Special Mentions'. This week special mentions went to Julia, Eva and Harriet and our Star of the Week was Austin as he always changes himself for PE. Well done to all of you. |
