Butterflies and Minibeasts

Chosen by Ella

 Monday

We looked at lots of different Minibeasts in books. The children had to find one they liked, draw it and write something good about it. We had black and red bettles, butterfly, spider and ant. They all worked really hard.

Tuesday

Labelling the body parts on a fly. Using wing, leg, abdomen, thorax and eye. They had to cut out the correct label and stick it on the correct body part. They then made a fly using black sugar paper and white tissue paper.

Wednesday

Life cycle of a butterfly. Mrs Brinkley read the story of the hungry caterpillar and Miss Sorrell got the children to put the food in to the caterpillar, at the end the caterpillar changed in to a beautiful butterfly.

Thursday

We made lots of different butterflies. We put the children in to pairs and set 3 tables with different activities. One table had colouring a butterfly, second table they had to put lots of different coloured clear squares in to a laminating pouch and cut out a butterfly shape (Mrs Stead had the task of trying to stop the squares moving about she did a great job) and third table they worked with Miss Sorrell to make a stained glass window butterfly. They had to work together, which they did really well. WELL DONE.
