Half term has come already!

The Hawks have finished their topic 'Who Do You Think You Are?', we have been looking at our family trees, drawing up CV's for ourselves and spending time talking about all the postive things that we have about us and letting our classmates know things that we value about them. Apparently I am nice so that is always good to know!

In Numeracy we have spent time looking at different methods of multiplication and division, namely the grid method of multiplication and the chunking method of division.

In Literacy we have been writing our own poems. First we concentrated on rhyme and alliteration and used these techniques to write our own nonsense poems, these were very impressive. We then moved on to looking at imagery in poems and how similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia (well done to those of you that ogt that right in the Spelling test!), can be used to g=create clear pictures in our heads. Using these skills we wrote a narrative poem about the life of a tree through Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The Hawks then performed these poems on camera.

We have also come to a close on our Science topic about the Earth, Moon and Sun; in recent weeks we have been concentrating on why we have days, months, years and seasons, as well as why the Moon looks like it changes shape.

Our time focussing on the Haka has ended quite fittingly with the success of the New Zealand rugby team in the World Cup. By the end of the Half Term the Hawks had planned and performed their own versions of the famous Maori war dance.

Bring on the next half term!
