The final week of this term, and still lots of jobs to do! On Tuesday afternoon a special visitor came to school – Father Christmas! On Wednesday it was Christmas dinner, and in the afternoon the Ducklings joined the rest of the school in our special ‘cinema’ in the hall to watch Gnomeo and Juliet. On Friday afternoon we walked down to the church for our end of term service – the class walked down very well. Here’s what else we did this week: Monday: We spent the morning creating the front for our Christmas cards. We had to cut a circle of snowflake paper, which we stuck onto a bauble-shaped card. Onto this we added 2 circles for a snowman, and then added features using pens. To finish, we added snowflakes. In the afternoon we went outside and got the wheeled toys out – while using them we had some races, as though we were Father Christmas driving his sleigh!
After playtime we had rotation, doing the activity we did not do last week. The green and blue tables came to the computer suite and decorated a tree using Dazzle. The red and yellow tables went cooking, and did the last part of their special cooking task – decorating their Christmas cakes with marzipan, icing, holly leaves and berries. In the afternoon we made our hats ready for Christmas dinner. This year we made Santa hats, by adding cotton wool to create the fur trim and bauble, and then sticking on our name and some Christmas foam shapes.
Thursday: We talked about the names of Father Christmas’s reindeers, and then created a new recruit to join his reindeers – we drew the reindeer and gave it a name. For PE we took off our jumpers, shoes and socks and went into the hall to play some party games: musical statues, stockings at the bed (like Granny’s footsteps), the King declares (like Simon says), Santa Santa (where a Santa is hidden behind 1 child’s back and the seeker has to guess who has it) and musical bumps. In the afternoon we played a board game called ‘The way to Bethlehem’. Friday: Father Christmas set us a challenge: to build him a new sleigh using construction toys. The rules were it must be able to hold a Father Christmas figure and at least 1 present, and it must be able to slide in snow (for when he returns to Lapland!). We chose what toy to use, and set about designing and making. Some of the sleighs had to have some alterations made, and then at the end of the session we tested them by sliding them down a plank of wood.
We hope you all have a great Christmas – see you back at school on Wednesday 4th January. Miss Reeve and Mrs Stead
